Clint Brown, an enrolled Gros Ventre member from Fort Belknap Indian Reservation in Montana, explains the history, clothing, and customs of the Gros Ventre (A'aninin, or White Clay) people of the northern plains. He discusses the origin of the tribal name, the significance of regalia including roaches, eagle feathers, and bustles, hair traditions, clan systems, and beadwork. Brown shares stories of smallpox devastation and explains how traditional dress conveyed tribal identity, social status, and personal history.
