West Point, Kentucky – Salt River Confluence

West Point, KY, United States

Ohio River town at the mouth of the Salt River, about twenty river miles below the Falls of the Ohio. Local and trail-community tradition places the Corps of Discovery’s first camp after leaving Clarksville here on October 26, 1803 – an undocumented stretch of the descent, presented as tradition. The bluff above the confluence is preserved as Civil War-era Fort Duffield park, and both the riverfront and the fort are captured in 360 degrees by Terrain360.
