Tent of Many Voices
Lloyd Topsky, an Adjunct Professor of Cree language at MSU Northern, discusses Algonquian language families, traditional Cree vocabulary, and Great Plains tribal history. He teaches ten Cree words used in English place names (moccasin, wigwam, Mississippi), explains Plains Indian sign language as a universal communication system, and reflects on Cree-Blackfeet relations, tribal alliances, and the spiritual practices that guided warfare and survival decisions.
